Book Description

An Empirical Investigation of Stock Markets: The CCF Approach attempts to make an empirical contribution to the literature on the movements of stock prices in major economies, i.e. Germany, Japan, the UK and the USA. Specifically, the cross-correlation function (CCF) approach is used to analyze the stock market. This volume provides some empirical evidence regarding the economic linkages among a group of different countries.

Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 analyze the international linkage of stock prices among Germany, Japan, the UK and the USA. Chapter 2 applies the standard approach, whereas Chapter 3 uses the CCF approach. Chapter 4 analyzes the relationship between stock prices and exchange rates. Chapter 5 analyzes the relationship among stock prices, exchange rates, and real economic activities. Chapter 6 summarizes the main results obtained in each chapter and comments on the possible directions of future research.

Product Description
In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have occasionally been asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services in Japan. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within Japan and the extent to which Japan might be used as a point of distribution within Asia. From an economic perspective, however, Japan does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries, rather, it represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another. In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for Japan over the next five years for hundreds of industries, categories and products. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by Japan when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. For many items, latent demand is clearly observable in sales, as in the case for food or housing items. Consider, however, the category "satellite launch vehicles". Clearly, there are no launch pads in Japan used by the space industry to launch satellites. However, the core benefit of the vehicles (e.g. telecommunications, etc.) is "consumed" by the area served by Japan. Without Japan, in other words, the market for satellite launch vehicles would be lower for the population in Japan, Asia, or the world in general. One needs to allocate, therefore, a portion of the worldwide economic demand for launch vehicles to both Asia and Japan. The data presented are the result of various spatial econometric and time-series forecasting models which, for each category presented, are applied to forecast and allocate latent demand across all countries of the world and major distribution centers or centers of dominant influence within each country. This is accomplished knowing that economic fundamentals (e.g. income) generally vary from one country to another within a given country over time. In this report, I report the allocation for each category for Japan as an area of dominant influence in Asia and, potentially, the world. ... Read more

From the supplier: Insurance industry experts estimate that insured losses resulting from the Jan 1995 earthquake in Kobe, Japan, may be over $5 billion, with domestic Japanese non-life insurer losses at about $2 billion. The estimates are based on data collected by the Marine & Fire Assn of Japan in Tokyo. About $1 billion worth of claims will be for earthquake-insured dwellings, and about $500 million in claims will be for commercial and industrial losses, including fires.

Book Description
On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on semi-milled or wholly milled rice and broken rice in Japan face a number of questions.Which countries are supplying semi-milled or wholly milled rice and broken rice to Japan? How important is Japan compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of semi-milled or wholly milled rice and broken rice vary from one country of origin to another in Japan? On the supply side, Japan also exports semi-milled or wholly milled rice and broken rice.Which countries receive the most exports from Japan? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers?

This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for semi-milled or wholly milled rice and broken rice in Japan. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view.Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact.Icon Group has developed a proprietary methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for semi-milled or wholly milled rice and broken rice for those countries serving Japan via exports, or supplying from Japan via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. ... Product Description
This study covers the latent demand outlook for business software across the prefectures and cities of Japan. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,000 cities in Japan. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it’s prefecture and of Japan is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-à-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each prefecture and city, latent demand estimates are created for business software. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. ... Read more
