5-0 out of 5 stars Machine Quilting
This book has step by step instructions along with practice lessons.I took a quilting course and this will be a great book to refer back to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, easy Instructions
Great book for novice machine quilter.I really like the exercises implemented to improve skills.Recommended for those who just need a fews basic tips for starting out and do not want to spend a lot of time studying the art of machine quilting.

4-0 out of 5 stars good for beginners
I bought this book for a class in machine quilting and it's one of the most useful references in my sewing room. A very good hands-on guide to machine quilting!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great place to start!!
I recently took a class taught by Ann Moore (EXCELLENT INSTRUCTOR) who recommended this book for her class.Although this book may not have a lot of pages, it gives a tremendous amount of information. In addition to basic machine quilting techniques, there are tables giving characteristics of threads, needles, batting, and other useful information. The types, uses, and sizes of threads are made very clear and understandable. The book starts with basic exercises and progresses through really advanced techniques used in art quilts.Don't let the 64 pages fool you into thinking there is not a lot of information here.It covers both "straight-line" and free motion quilting. As with any art, practice is needed before one excels, and this book provides exercises so you can build your skills.I have three other machine quilting books, and this is by far the best one for a beginning machine quilter.

5-0 out of 5 stars great little book
I have been looking at many books (purchased some)in hopes of finding a simple book with some really good instructions on quilting, and this book did the job! It may seem thin, but if you need a book that covers all the basics with clear instructions you can't go wrong. Besides the easy to understand instructions, there are pictures, colored photographs of finished quilts, projects for practice, and even charts for thread, batting, and needle choices. Some of the books I purchased(for making art quilts)gave great directions for many things, but didn't really cover enough on quilt stitching.I didn't need another inspirational or color theory book. This book got me going on the sewing machine! I would say that if you need a quilt book that explains how to prepare a quilt for stitching and then actually learn the different types of stitches in an easy to understand way,you shouldn't be disappointed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Better Homes and Gardens Quilting Book.
A great book for someone getting started in quilt making.Wife has had an earlier copy of this book for some time. This copy was ordered for a Grand Daughter that entered into a new career two years ago, that being a first time young wife dedicated to becoming a profesional Home maker.Am told this book is a step in the right direction.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVED THIS BOOK
A friend let me borrow this book and I took it home, looked it over and then and there ordered my own through Amazon.Found it very helpful as I am new at quilting and this had lots of good help in it and is easy to follow. Would recommend this to anyone interested in learning to quilt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Basic Quilt Book
I recommend this book highly. It is well written with lots of photographs to illustrate the instructions. It covers all topics that a beginner would want to know. When I start a new project, I always refer to this book first.I have other quilting books but this one stands out for its simple descriptions and photographs. It is an outstanding reference tool without being ponderous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Complete Guide to Quilting(Better Homes and Gardens Creative Collection)
This book contains lots of very helpful,full-color,close-up photographs of the many step-by-step techniques utilized in making quilts. The directions are written clearly and are easy to understand. There is also an informative glossary of frequently used quiltmaking terms and techniques located in the back of the book. The definitions are clear and concise and assist in providing a good basic understanding of all relevant information having to do with quilting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Beginner Book
I bought my first sewing machine back in February 2007.I had never used a sewing machine before in my life.I was fascintaded by quilts and other sewing projects.I reviewed many quilting books at the local bookstore, probably over 30.I found this one the best.It has so many photos giving you step by step instructions on how to make a quilt by hand or with a sewing machine. The format of the book is perfect and arranged great. The book will teach you how to coordinate fabrics by pattern, color, and style with a variety of methods.

Inside the book you will discover many different layouts for quilts and designs.Enough to keep you busy for years.

I was able to make my first quilt with this book.Remember I knew nothing about the subject, what materials to buy, and how to sew a quilt together (I did not even know how to sew a striaght line at the time) and I made a quilt.

After purchasing this book, I do not think I would need another quilting book. There is nothing missing from this book.It is the best reference out there.

Okay, enough said, if you are a beginner or need new tips or techniques, put this book in your shopping cart and buy it.

Have fun quilting everyone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How did I get along without it?
A friend recommended this book -- it is the Quilting Bible, as far as I am concerned. Concise, descriptive. I don't know how I got along without it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book!
I'm very new to quilting and this was the first book I bought. It has real, "applicable" tips and information that I think even a more experienced quilter could find handy.Everything from what needles to use for hand quilting, how to put on a binding to how to make biscuit quilts. Her instructions are easy to understand and follow as well. I'm using this book constantly as I make my first quilts.I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Step by Step Visual Instructions
Great book for the beginner as well as the expert. It shows detailed information with photos so you get an accurate picture of how to do it.Make those precious gift items that will be treasured for years to come.I ordered the book and gave it away. After my friend showed me what she made I had to go out and get one of my own.It gives such detailed photos that it makes the craft easy and fun.I have made numerous things now and given so many as gifts.I have save so much money by making these things myself and in the long run they mean so much more to the people I give them to.They have told me they will keep them in the family for years to come.If you think you don't have the talent -- don't worry.I thought that too about myself. But, with the easy to follow directions the only talent you need is knowing how to read.Plus, you will enjoy every second and get a real sense of accomplishment with the finished product.Great gift item for that stay-at-home loved one who can't get out.Even for the busy person who thinks they don't have time because this book makes the steps simple to follow.Well worth the money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I was looking for
I found this book to concentrate more on applying applique, stencils, and designs of that nature. Which is fine if you enjoy quilting using those techniques. I would of like to of seen more ideas with log cabin, flying geese, and Irish Chain quilts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't be beat if you learn by "seeing" how-to!
This book is organized alphabetically (great idea) and the how-to photographs are perfect for someone that learns better by "seeing" rather than "hearing" or "reading" how to do something.I first got it from the local library and then had to get my own personal copy for keeping! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pieced Curves So Simple - sort of...
Although I've been sewing for 30+ years, I am not a quilter. I thought quilts with curves would be more forgiving than matching up all those straight lines of traditional quilts. The instructions are well done and good use of pictures. I also enjoyed the explanation of color and use of different fabric patterns/solids to create interest. BUT, I had a hard time with the circle sewing and ended up using some of my own techniques that also look very good. I definetly got my money's worth from this book and would recommend it to others.

5-0 out of 5 stars You can't believe how easy circles can be!
This is a beautiful and useful book by Dale Flemming. After I bought the book, I got to take a class with her and she is amazing.Every student in the class was able to sew any size circle into the middle of a piece of fabric. The book shows you how.The chapter on color is worth the price of the book alone. The techniqes can be used for other work like landscapes. You really don't use pins! You use a simple gluestick instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Making curve and circles
Okay circles and other shapes like this are always a pain. This book shows you how to sew circles and other curved shapes easily without messing it up.I loved the instructions, they were easy to follow and fully documented with pictures. If you quilt you definitely need this book, you will love it. The illustrations are crisp and precise and the ideas you will come away with will even surprise yourself. It is a can do book, you will be able to do curves, circles and more once you get this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Now I can make perfect circles!
Dale Fleming has come up with ingenious techniques for piecing shapes that I would otherwise have to hand applique (not my forte!) The book provides great inspiration to develop your own ideas and designs. HIghly recommended for thecontemporary quilters library.

1-0 out of 5 stars VERY HARD TO read this book
I love the concept when I saw her on Simply quilts...I pulled up their web site and everything refers you back to the book...well...I wish I never bought this book...the author is so HARD to read and understdand, very choppy and goes into detail that is not necessary at all! You will understand once you start with her credits...I have been quilting for 25 years! This is one of the worst quilting books ever...! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best I Have Found So Far
I have a number of books pertaining to machine quilting, including the McTavishing book. That one is good, but this one is better. The ideas and instructions are superior. I've already put some of it to use and the improvement in my free-motion is very satisfying.

5-0 out of 5 stars happy surprise
This book is a supreme example of the old adage "don't judge a book by it's cover."I found the cover quilt extremely boring to the point I couldn't imagine why in the world the book had so many good reviews. When I got the book I didn't even like the quilting design on the cover.I didn't like and wouldn't make any of the quilts in the book, either. They were way too basic for me.However, forget all that! The bland quilts in the book were just a quick way for the author to show her quilting designs, and I get it!The free-flowing designs are wonderful, and doable by all! There is no marking involved, no stencils, nothing to stop you!I suspect long-armers have known how to do designs like this for many years, but they just haven't been available to domestic machine quilters.I am grateful that I bought this book, and I think both beginning, intermediate, and advanced domestic machine quilters will love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for!
Looking for a book that goes into detail of free motion quilting after you already have the basics down? Then this is the book for you.Builds up skills and gives detailed instructions on how to design the quilt and map out designs.Step by step on how to practice the patterns so no marking is needed.Love this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars So much more than patterns
This is so much more than patterns. It gives you ideas on how to look at your quilt and then decide what to do.The hints it gives you on how to make your free motion work is well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Book
This is one of the best books (and I have dozens)I have purchased regarding quilting the quilts.Actually, only one other author impressed me as much, and that was Karen McTavish.Great pictures, easy and fun to read.Read the whole thing twice and will again as soon as I get time.Have a pen and pad ready to draw.Great fun!Hope Christine is writing more books real soon! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Continuous Line Quilting

We just purchased a long arm quilting machine and weren't sure where to start or how. This book was very iluminating and gave us a lot of help and information.Thanks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Priced right
This book focuses on borders and the patterns are on a grid so they are easy to transfer.Good basic designs for your library. This is not a book for the expert.Great for those of us starting out. Can't beat the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars A whole useful book for the price of a magazine
I bought this design book online as an inexpensive Secret Santa gift. She is not getting it!

Initially I was underwhelmed on opening the book. Each continuous line design is drawn on what looks like 1/4" square graph paper. On further examination I decided that this could be really useful for resizing the designs.

The introduction contains a generous amount of practical how to information, unusual in a design book as opposed to a how to book. In my opinion, those six pages alone would be worth the purchase price.

I found that each and every one of the 86 designs has its own "StitcherEase" tip, a clearly marked design repeat and most importantly, shows how to turn the corner with the design. There are flowing curved designs, and sharp geometrics, simple and complex ones.

Many of the designs would be lovely used in the borders of a quilt which had an overall or meandering design in the center.

This book is an inexpensive, excellent and inspirational resource for anyone who would like to learn how to mark and machine quilt their own tops.

I used this book in a small group who met and got together to quilt. Since we are of all levels of quilting and sewing, we used this as our beginners project and are all glad we did. Turned out to be wonderful for all of us. Great instructions and photo's making it easy for those of us with all levels of experience. We all had a ball doing it too. Bravo to our group. We keep pushing ourselves on to do more and more and love it all the time.

I thought I knew a lot about home sewing since I've been doing that for over 35 years but I was always afraid to try quilting.I found this book and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to try quilting, but unsure quite where to start. The instructions are great and easy to follow. The text is well-written and easy to understand and the photos/drawings used for examples are great. The book gives you a great variety of starter projects to choose from, along with fabric and design suggestions .I'm proud to say I'm nearly finished with my first project from the book and I can't wait to try my next one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
This is a truly excellent beginner book. I had never quilted before and have just completed the first project-in four days! I'm so glad I bought this book, and I'm already choosing fabrics for the next project in the book. I have enough confidence now to upgrade it into a bed-size quilt for my daughter. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful but ....
Amazing how extremely uncluttered and tidy studios can look.Always wonder
if they are ever used or just a space to lounge in.

5-0 out of 5 stars eye opening
This book has a lot of ideas I never thought of.The info about table heights and layout were very helpful. The pictures inspired me to get my room in shape. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great source of inspiration
I bought this book not knowing the best way to reorganise my sewing room. It has gives so many wonderful ideas and helps you make them into reality. Easy to follow, great pictures and such a joy to read, which I do still do for further inspiration.

5-0 out of 5 stars Creating my "not quite perfect" quilting space
I'm in the process of converting a boys' bedroom to a quilting room, so I was looking for specific ideas from the experts.Even though my quilting space will not be a 'perfect quilting space' as a result of reading this book, it will be so much better!I appreciated the author's guidelines for making the cutting and the pressing surfaces each the correct height - for the individual quilter, not just the average height quilter (I'm 5' tall, so "average height" does not work well for me) - and her attention to ergonomic considerations in all areas. Her ideas on use of space near the sewing machine, with small cutting and pressing areas right there, make so much sense, but would not have occurred to me.The book was well written; I just read it straight through, then went back to the sections as I was making more detailed plans.I would recommend it to anyone planning a quilting space, or redoing one that they have.It was very useful to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for quilters
I have been contemplating setting up my sewing room to make it truely a "quilting studio" as the author says we should call it.In the first chapter alone I learned about ergonomics for quilters and changed some things that helped me immediately.I had things set up the wrong height and orientation and these changes relieved my back and legs immediately.Throughout the book there are excellent suggestions, and six actual makeover examples.I highly recommend this book for quilters who want to make even the smallest change to their quilt studios. ... I prefer improvising and it really liberates my skills. Thanks for the useful tips to make it easier.

5-0 out of 5 stars Improvazatioal
It was the first of the several books to arrive that I ordered on one day. Condition was exactly as stated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational and practical
This book is a great resource for anyone who is making or has made the transition from traditional to freely expressed quilts. The author gives really clear instructions on how to form curves in both the quilt construction and the borders. The curves are all done with the topstitched method, using freezer paper, so there is no seam matching. Her own quilts are colourful and exuberant, and her passion comes through on every page. There are very clear instructions at each stage, and patterns for three small quilts to try out some of the ideas. It would not be suitable for complete beginners, but is not scarily difficult.

I made my first quilt block using this book. Everyone who sees it is amazed that this is my first piece because it looks so complicated. I am sure that my success is due to the detailed instruction of this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great beginner's book and reference on the basics
Someone recommended this book to me and I'm so glad they did. I was interested in quilting, but I wasn't sure where to begin, despite having a strong sewing background. The pictures and instructions are straightforward, easy to understand and follow, and logical. This is a great book for beginners, and perhaps it's even a great book to have around if you're an experienced quilter and want a handy reference or refresher course on the basics. I was able to follow what to do even though I wasn't working on a project that was anything like the ones in the book. The directions translate to every type of quilting project.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learning to Quilt
A great begginers book for those who dont have anyone to teach them. Easy to understand and follow instructions, also heaps of handy hints

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Quilt Book
I originally bought this book for a quilt club I had joined. The "main" person, who is a seasoned quilter, said it is her all time favorite book.I must agree.I currently have numerous "beginner or easy" quilt book, but this is the one I keep going back to.A must have, in my opinion.

3-0 out of 5 stars Only for beginners
Easy Machine Quilting is a truly basic book for machine quilting. It is not for the quilter who has mastered putting on a walking foot or done any free motion quilting. I was disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Had to buy second copy
My mother borrowed this book and still has it. She refers to it regularly. I finally had to buy another copy for myself.
The directions are very easy to follow and the pictures are clear.
Each chapter is a different technique taught by an expert.
Just reading through it gets you excited about trying some of the projects.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good guide
I bought this book at the same time as I purchased Guide to Machine Quilting. It is well done but less informative as the Guide to Machine Quilting which I refer to quite frequently.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy Machine Quilting
I loved this book.It was recommended by a friend of mine who has been quilting for years. The book goes step by step into making different kinds of quilts and even gives little projects to help you learn to quilt. This is a perfect beginner book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy Machine Quilting
I'm a person who likes to learn things pretty much 'on my own'.
To that end, the book is/was VERY helpful, and I will keep it as a reference.
Also, I was pleasantly surprised with the projects (I hadn't realized that there were projects). They are explained understandably and in detail.
I highly recommend it. ... Read more

Enjoyed the Book One of the series. The colorful illustrations and so easy to understand instructions plus the projects are delightful. What a way to make two quilts in the time it takes to make one.Looking forward to the next book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cotton Theory Quilting
An easy to understand book explaining how to make a quilt-as-you go quilt. The passages detailing how to make a quilt is very easy and is a tremendous time saver. You can even bind your quilt on your sewing machine!

2-0 out of 5 stars new quilting technique
Terriblely disappointing. The new look of a quilt done with this method to me is quiite unattractive. Quicker results do not necessarily produce a better looking product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well written
This book is a very creative concept of a very traditional art. The instructions are very well written and also very comprehensive. The technique is an interesting one with quick and beautiful results as both sides of the project are sewn with decorative stitches at the same time.

4-0 out of 5 stars love the cotton theory

3-0 out of 5 stars The Art of Landscape Quilting
Nice, inspirational book. Much more informative with the companion TV series or video, which provides much more technical information. However, with some quilting experience, the book is adequate to do some nice landscape quilts.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good information...but
the book assumed some previous landscaping knowledge, which I had none of.Also, it recommends painting and using markers to alter the appearance of your fabrics.I am not artistic and would just end up ruining it.Yes, I will use this book for some good ideas, but I will look for another book meant for absolute beginners like myself.

3-0 out of 5 stars Trees and more trees
This book is a sideways format book, because the majority of landscape quilts are wider than they are tall. I can see their point, but I found it made the subject covered on any one page rather brief and 'sound-bite'ish. Most of the book uses extensive illustrations of individual quilts made by one or other of both of the authors. About 80% of them are of groups of trees in different seasons, some with water. They show you how they chose their subject, and various stages duing construction. Each has some special little tip to produce an effect, such as using felt tips to change the colour of petals, or make tree trunk markings.

The value of this book comes from the development of each idea. The reader will have to analyse why each project works (or doesn't) and then adapt those ideas to their own landscapes. There is very little about quilting, and no textural embellishments or thread painting. It is definitely a resource book rather than a manual.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very instructive
This is the type of book you would keep in the how-to-do section of your bookcase. The instructions are clear and there are many examples to come up with your own designs or use the ones in the book.I am so greatful to find artists who are willing to share their knowledge with others instead of guarding it jealously. This is a book you will refer to over and over.

5-0 out of 5 stars Make it easy to produce notable polished results
Landscape quilting techniques have their own demands and special tricks, and here to bring them all to light is The Art of Landscape Quilting, a guide to choosing fabrics, designing, cutting, and painting fabric. Over fifty quilts from the authors' own collections are used to provide directions on producing landscape designs, from ten simple scenes to get started to how-to directions on adding structural elements and customizing results. Color photos throughout make it easy to produce notable polished results with this book as a guideline. ... Read more

I didn't buy this book for a while, even though these are two of my favorite quilters, because I don't plan to ever collaborate on a quilt with anyone. But I bought it anyway and am so glad I did!It is such a bright, fun and informative book.I still don't plan to collaborate with anyone, but I will useand enjoy this book for quite some time.Definitely worth five stars!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best quilting book I have purchased so far.
I love this book.It is filled with colour, design and great ideas. It has filled me with inspiration.I want to sew everything and more of what I design too! I thank the authors, too, for introducing me me to the 'Artist's Way'.Just what I needed to kick start my wayward creativity. So many quilting books are devoid of originality - this book is filled with beautiful colour and simple ideas. So glad I found it!Jo Cooper, Australia

4-0 out of 5 stars A little derivative
This book has lots of great information and technique, but IMO owes a great big debt to books by Jan Mullen and by Judy Hooworth, both of whom the authors have lifted techniques and ideas from, and just retitled slightly. These two gals are good, no doubt, but it always bothers me to see ideas recycled from other artists without acknowledging them.
